Six figure contract at Allied Bakeries
Hygiene Group has clinched a six-figure contract at Allied Bakeries’ production facility at Gateshead. The two-year deal will see a dedicated team of 26 skilled Hygiene Group operatives perform a complete clean of all the production equipment during weekly shutdown at the facility where on-site equipment includes mixers, provers, ovens, cool- ers, slicers and wrapping machinery. Hygiene Group is also providing high level clean- ing as well as cleaning of silos, walls and floors, amenities, shower and toilet areas, offices, canteen, windows and grounds maintenance. To show its commitment to the highest cleaning
standards, Hygiene Group has invested in four new high- specification dry steam units for detail cleaning of production equipment. Cleaning at the Gateshead facility was previously handled in-house but the decision was taken to outsource the service to maximise flexibility in the cleaning process and allow on-site staff to focus on core activities. The perception of cleaning a new building is that it is easy, but in reality this can be quite the opposite. SCOR, the French re- insurance group, was the first tenant in five floors of new Lime Street offices in the City of London. Keeping the premis- es in pristine condition for 130 staff is not easy because every little mark or spill shows much more than in older buildings. SCOR approached six specialist office cleaning contractors. Karen Bradburn, who is responsible for the building’s FM, said: “Three contractors sold on low cost - that means fewer staff, rock bottom pay rates and lower standards. We chose Enhance Office Cleaning who focused on personal service and deliverables. Enhance advised us that to provide the best results we would have to pay the London Living Wage, to which we agreed. SCOR’s offices are given an early morning clean with a full time Enhance housekeeper on site during working hours to maintain the kitchen areas and coffee machines, washing up, set up meeting rooms, distribution of post and handling urgent cleaning tasks.
Periodic work such as window cleaning, keyboard and computer screen cleaning, carpets, Altro and Amtico floor maintenance is also handled by Enhance. Managing director, Sandy Aird, is frequently on site at 6.00am for quality control inspections and to meet the staff, all of whom he knows by first name.
Bradburn continued: “We have a very ‘hands off’ approach to cleaning. Enhance provides the expertise - Sandy has extensive experience and he keeps a beady eye on quality control. We have a small, high quality specialist office cleaning team which is just what we wanted and we are delighted.”
Principle builds media portfolio
Principle Cleaning Services is continuing to add contracts to its growing portfolio of media companies and has recently won a three year contract for daily office cleaning for IPC Media’s landmark Blue Fin Building. IPC Media produces over 60 media brands, most of which are based at Blue Fin Building. Eight tenant companies are also housed at Blue Fin Building. Blue Fin Building is an
architectural statement to match its world-famous neighbour, Tate Modern, and gets its name from the 2000 blue aluminium fins that
cover the building’s façade. The fins, manufactured in Poland, have a metallic finish that changes the building’s appearance when viewed from different angles. Specifically placed to reflect the sun at different parts of the day, the fins provide constant shade inside the building.
Principle Cleaning Services will be responsible for the cleaning of the purpose-built 12 floor building with central atrium. Over 35 Principle Cleaning Services’ staff will be on hand to carry out daily office cleaning including washrooms, windows, reception areas, floors and the internal carpets.
Principle Cleaning reviewed the manner in which the carpets are vacuumed and, together with IPC, new innovative carpet cleaning equipment has been introduced. This includes a state of the art ride on battery vacuum machine. This will provide a better overall standard of cleaning, generating higher productivity which will in turn use fewer hours to reinvest into other areas of the contract.
