ational Instruments has signed a definitive merger agreement under which NI will acquire

AWR Corporation (AWR). AWR is a leading sup- plier of electronic design automation (EDA) software for designing RF and high-frequency components and systems for the semiconductor, aerospace and defense, communications and test equipment indus- tries. Upon the closing of the transaction, AWR will continue to operate as a wholly owned NI subsidiary under the leadership of the existing management team.

The fast design cycles and increasing complexity of RF and wireless systems demand better integration between design and test. RF system designers need to validate their simulations with actual measure- ments, while RF test engineers need to increase test reuse and decrease test time through more design integration. By increasing the effectiveness of the in- tegration between AWR design tools and NI software and hardware, NI and AWR together can significantly improve customer productivity through increased connectivity between design, validation and produc- tion test functions.

Furthermore, NI reinforced its commitment as a partner of Southeast Asia’s emerging economies in world-class research and innovation with the deci-

sion to open the company’s first Vietnam office in Ho Chi Minh City. Based at the CENTEC Tower in District 3, National Instruments Vietnam will support the country’s research centers and technology sector.

ational Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: NSM) reported sales of $374.1 million and net in-

come of $67.1 million, or 26 cents per diluted share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011, which ended May 29, 2011. National‘s fourth quarter sales were 9% higher than the third quarter of fiscal 2011.

Fourth quarter net income of $67.1 million, or 26 cents per diluted share, was an increase from the $59.4 million, or 24 cents per diluted share, in the third quarter of fiscal 2011.

In addition, National Semiconductor introduced the LM3466, a highly integrated linear LED driver that simplifies the design of high power, wide area lighting fixtures such as streetlights. The LM3466, with just a few passive components, provides a complete system that drives each LED string from any off-the-shelf AC/DC constant-current power supply.

National’s LM3466 linear LED driver integrates a 70V, 1.5A N-Channel MOSFET and features a wide input range of 6V to 70V. LED strings with maximum stack voltages exceeding 70V may be driven with minor changes to the external components. Samples are available now with production quantities in July. The LM3466 LED driver is offered in an 8-pin ePSOP
