Ed’s memo

“Every single thing you do matters. You have been created as one of a kind. You have been created in order to make a difference. You have within you the power to change the world.” ~Andy Andrews

I wanted to say thank you in a different

way – in a way that showed our deep appreciation to all of you who supported our national initiative, Green Office Week, back in April. It showed us two things: that there are

many, many of you who really want to make a difference, and who really want to be more conscious about careless and thoughtless behaviours at the office, and are really keen to replace these with far more sense-making ones - which have the added benefit of being kinder to our planet.

What people have realised is that printing on both sides of paper is not rocket-science – rather it makes infinite sense to do so, and saves thousands of trees! Neither is it rocket science that leaking taps need to be fixed promptly; that cans and cartridges, plastic bottles

and paper cups need to be collected and sent for recycling; lights should be energy- savers and all computer equipment should be eco-efficient!

As the old saying goes ‘Rome was not built in a day’ and clearly the full spectrum of office behaviours cannot happen in a week! But every step that you took (whilst encouraging those around to do the same) is a building block! And what many realised is that every step creates the energy for a stronger and broader engagement in green behaviours. In this issue, we draw your attention to another cause and call you to a different action – Nominate a candidate for the PA of the Year Award. Why this Award is important is that we need to showcase top performance, and the top performers of this community

of professionals. It’s important to do

so for the sake of the profession, for the sake of role-modelling... and for the sake of employers, that they get a better understanding of the status of the profession and of the skills that populate it.

So yet again... roll up your sleeves and

participate: Tell us who needs to be on the list. Enjoy the winter of 2011 – yes, winter will come again next year, but it will not be 2011’s one. Warm hug
