that I am in I must know where all my documents are as my boss is constantly referring to them. I am also constantly checking my mail, his mail and former boss’ mail.

15:30: I now start working on tomorrow’s

schedule. I have now confirmed all the meetings and there are two meeting offsite so I must co-ordinate with the driver for travel times. I have a folder for each meeting, labeled with attendees, the time and the place of the meeting.

information. There is one introductory meeting, so I have googled the attendees and printed it for my Boss’ information.

16:00: Union meeting ends. I rush into

my Boss’ office with a folder with urgent signatures. My boss has now disappeared into the little room at the corner of his office (Toilet). I walk out with my folder and wait for him to come out. He comes out but now he is talking on his Cellphone so I still wait.

16:30: 16:50: 17:00: My Boss calls me in. He signs all

the paperwork of which I had to explain to him one by one, what he was signing.

Boss informs me I must reschedule

all tomorrow’s meetings as he has to meet with the Minister for the whole day.

Boss leaves for another meeting at

18h00 in Johannesburg. 17:00:

I am now frantically trying to

reschedule all tomorrow’s meetings. I have managed to get hold of almost every one. Fortunately the one I can’t get hold of his meeting was scheduled for late in the afternoon, so I sent them an e-mail with alternative dates and times.

17:45: I must ensure that protocol is

adhered to for his meeting with the Minister. I complete all the necessary forms and send then through to the department. I call the Minister’s secretary to inform him that I have e-mailed him the protocol documentation for tomorrow.

18:00: I prepare a folder for the meeting

with the Minister and enclose previous documents from the previous meeting as I am not too sure what the agenda is for this meeting. I give it to the driver to

deliver to my Boss’s house. 18:15:

18:30: In the file I enclose all background

Boss calls; I must make arrangements for his family at the

American Embassy to renew their passports. I then do my do to list and add all the things I was not able to do today. I start with the urgent stuff and then the important stuff.

I start packing hoping that the Johannesburg traffic has

subsided. On my way out I double check the doors to make sure I have locked them. Switch off lights and make my way down the lift from 24th floor to the basement parking and head home. Another typical day in the office gone.
