Q:What do these regulationsmean for European buyers?
A: If European buyers purchase power supplies designed for the USmarket, or fromUS suppliers whomay not be aware of the latest European regulations, they risk end equipment failing to achieve its CEmark. This can lead to costly and time-consuming re-qualification. There are a few exceptions to the European regulations. External power supplies formedical devices do not have tomeet Level V efficiency standards. However, these are subject to other regulations to ensure patients are not electrocuted. Battery chargers are exempt, as are power supplies for some servicing equipment. Finally, low voltage external power supplies (nameplate output voltage less than 6V and output current greater than or equal to 550mA, are exempt too. It is complicated.
The safest way forward is for buyers to consult expert
European suppliers who understand local regulations.
