Ken Norgrove as chief execu- tive officer of its general insur- ance business in Ireland. Norgrove joins Zurich from Travelers Insurance where he was vice-president responsible for international strategic development. He previously worked with RSA Insurance in numerous senior roles.

Gavin Barrett has been appointed country manager Ireland at HTC. He will have responsibility for growing HTC's market share in Ireland and will oversee the launch of a range of new devices in 2011. An MSc graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Barrett has extensive experience in mobile telecoms, multimedia and con- sumer technology sectors. His career to date has seen him work in various business devel- opment roles at Crowdstar International, Ammeon, Upstart Games and Nokia.

The Irish Government has appointed economist Robert Watt as secretary-general of the newly formed Department of Public Expenditure and
Reform. Watt’s most recent role was as assistant secretary in the sectoral policy division of the Department of Finance where he had responsibility for overall expenditure policy, including the Comprehensive Spending Review, capital investment policy and manag- ing the annual Estimates process. Previously, he worked with Indecon Economic Consultants and London Economics.

Cork Chamber, the business organisation that represents the interests of about 1,000 Cork- based businesses, has elected John Mullins as its new presi- dent. CEO of Bord Gáis, Mullins replaces Ger O’Mahoney who has served as president for the past two
years.Mullins has held senior management positions with Greenstar, ESB, ESB International and Pricewater- houseCoopers, and was also chief executive of Bioverda. He is a fellow of Engineers Ireland and a member of the UCC gov- erning body. He is also chair- man of Anamcara Charity and a director of the COPE Found- ation. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in engineering from UCC and an MBA from UCD Michael Smurfit Business School.
