News Haven for superyachts M

ALLORCA will be firmly on the map this summer as the expan-

sion work at the established marina of Port Adriano reaches its final stages. Port Adriano, whose commercial area has been designed by Philippe Starck, will have 82 new moor- ings for vessels between 20m and 60m long, making it one of the Mediterranean's largest marinas for superyachts. Add a good selection of smart restau- rants, fashionable cafes and boutiques, and it' s poised to become one of Mallorca' s hot- test destinations. To coincide with the launch of the newly expanded marina, First Mallorca (00 34 971 679 444), one of the island' s leading estate agents, will open a new office there later in the summer. For more on Mallorca, see page 78.

With new moorings, Mallorca' s popularity looks set to rise

The Chinese raise

a glass of claret F

RENCH vineyards have seen a surge of international interest, with a significant increase in demand from China. To the Chinese,

the Bordeaux ` brand name' is increasingly becoming a status symbol denoting prosperity. Growing demand for claret from their domestic market is tempting intrepid Chinese buyers to get their own vine- yardsÐ often large estates with significant production capacity. One such property on the market is a château in Saint-Emilion at

€5,450,000. It comes with graceful 18th-century buildings set in one hectare (2½ acres) of parkland, and with 6.3 hectares (15½ acres) of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon vines located close to the Dordogne river. Many of the vines date back to 1901; the youngest ones date from 1964 and 1988. Through Savills International (020± 7016 3740; www.savills.com/international)
