FROM THE EDITOR Happy Holidays

W

ith scorching temperatures in the UK over the Easter break, which for some extended until May 3, your customers are already in the mood for summer. With their sunshine holidays shimmering on the horizon, you will need to have

your answers ready for what they need for some practical, but fashionable, holiday kit... Comfort no longer has to be sacrificed on the altar of style, and

looking good on holiday doesn’t necessarily mean enduring the ‘breaking-in’ of your chosen sandal and the sticking plasters this requires. Advances in shoe design and technology have led to a new generation of healthy footwear brands, which keep you in shape and also look pretty cool! In this issue, we beach-test some this summer’s hottest styles –

including fully adjustable foot thongs and some elegant, yet supremely comfortable sandals for the ladies that will take them painlessly from the beach to the nightclub, but won’t break the bank! All the styles featured in this month’s Holiday Kit (page 28) have received a big thumbs-up from our editorial team at Footwear Today. Now, it’s May and Festival time is almost upon us, and there is

nothing like black rubber and high heels to pull in the customers. We have a fabulous collection of Wellington boots for your customers, whatever the weather this summer. When a pair of Aigle wellies came up for review recently, my hand was bitten clean off by our fashion writer, Vicky Kember. Read her review of the footwear on page 24. In our Editor’s Choice page this month we are featuring shoes for

the guys that are more comfortable than comfort food! And, don’t miss Foot Health... Apparently, fashion conscious women go to such extreme lengths to wear trendy shoes that one in ten women admits they have had to receive medical attention or even be hospitalised because of their shoes. Nearly half of women have twisted their ankle because of their

footwear and two thirds admit to wearing shoes that have caused them injury. The top injuries caused by shoes were broken ankles, twisted knees, infected blisters, bunions and torn tendons, according to a survey from Hotter Shoes. While, according to a survey from Saga, a good pair of heels can

send a lady's heart rate soaring to 120 beats per minute. Saga asked 4,500 women who are over 50 how often they wear high heels. We found that 72% of them wear high heels more than once a week. A further 30% get out their heels for special occasions. The over 50s are smitten with their stilettos. Slipping into sensible

shoes once a lady reaches a certain age is not an option these days. Almost three quarters of women over 50 are still happily wearing high heels, report Saga. If all else fails, your customers could try wearing stiletto suspenders! Read more on page 20….
