Each issue, we spotlight what’s happening in ECA regions throughout the country. Here, we focus on the South East and South Wales regions

branches: Brighton Hove and District; Eastbourne and District; Surrey Area; Maidstone and East Kent; and Tunbridge Wells. The region stretches from Chichester in the west up as far as Aldershot, covers parts of south London and includes all of the counties of Kent, Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex. The South East regional office has been located for more than 20 years at Bank Buildings, Heathfield in East Sussex, about 15 miles south of Tunbridge Wells. The office is well placed to serve the region, and has a fully equipped training room available free to members for meetings and training courses. The regional team consists of regional manager Howard Salmon, deputy regional managers Anne Green and Sue Arden, and regional secretary Clare Emsden.

The region also supported and promoted Supervisors and Management Courses at the ECA’s offices at Sevenoaks. ECS health and safety assessment sessions are held regularly each month at Heathfield, with an average of 45 members attending each day. The recession has taken its toll in the region and, sadly, some long- established members have faced liquidation – often due to cash flow problems. On a more positive note, in 2010 there was a larger number of replacement companies (albeit smaller businesses) brought into membership.

Three technical evenings have been organised by the region, in association with ELECSA, at Maidstone, Crawley and Brighton. These covered the Microgeneration
