As energy becomes a key driver in the water industry and water efficiency becomes a driver for other sectors, WWT editor Natasha Wiseman takes a look at what the Sustainabilitylive! event has to offer

Gen up on sustainability A

s always, visiting IWEX gives delegates the opportunity to find out what is happening in the wider markets for sustainability by visiting the co-located events that make up Sustainabilitylive!. The National Energy Management Exhibition (NEMEX), Environmental Technology, Sustainable Business – The Event and Brownfield Expo are co-located on the same dates and feature companies, organisations, seminars and other relevant to water.

No water industry company can escape the drive for energy efficiency through enhanced energy management. NEMEX (National Energy Management Exhibition) is the UK’s leading energy and renewables event and is a must for energy managers in the water industry. NEMEX brings together energy executives and decision makers across a range of industries all shaping the UK business approach to the energy and carbon crisis. The event hosts two seminar theatres this year and topics include many relevant to the water industry. Hannah Greig, Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) policy officer at DECC will be speaking along with Dominic Burbridge of the Carbon Trust and representatives from

companies including Siemens and AECOM. As well as the CRC, buildings management, behaviour change, metering and anaerobic digestion will all be on the agenda. Exhibitors include water management specialists Business Stream and Waterscan; instrumentation specialist Endress+Hauser; remote monitoring specialists Radio-Tech and a number of metering companies including Siemens and G4S Utility Services. ET 2011 brings together the environmental technology companies for an exhibition and three-day seminar event. Topics cover a wide range of issues, including waste management, green transport, firewater pollution control,

galvanising, air pollution and MCERTS. The Water Monitoring Association will be exhibiting at ET, along with instrumentation companies such as Gemini Data Loggers and Hydro-Logic. Sustainable Business (SB) magazine, sister

title to WWT and WET News, is hosting the Event Conference on the main stage at Sustainabilitylive! The three-day programme will address the key sustainability issues affecting businesses and how companies themselves can put changes into effect. SB – The Event provides an opportunity to hear how cross-sector companies are addressing and planning for the future in terms of water, carbon, waste and transport. SB – The Event is also hosting Clean Tech Crucible – a ‘Dragons’ Den’ type event for new technology on Wednesday, 25 May. This will include emerging technologies for water, transport, carbon and waste and is being organised by Isle Utilities.

Visitors to IWEX should take the opportunity to explore the wider event and network across different sectors at Sustainabilitylive!. It is probably the only event to truly capture the convergence of interests in water, energy and beyond, in one place.
