Projects look at enhancing publications
SURFfoundation of the Netherlands is funding six projects that aim to enhance scholarly publications. The projects will allow researchers to go beyond traditional scientifi c publications by sharing datasets, illustrations, audio fi les, and musical scores with fellow researchers in the context of Enhanced Publications.
The projects began in January and the researchers will submit the results in May. The experience they gain is hoped to provide further examples showing the added value of publishing in the context of Enhanced Publications.
Robert Massie wins IPI award
Robert Massie, president of Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), has been awarded the International Patent Information Award 2011 for his ‘signifi cant achievements towards the advancement of patent information.’
According to the selection board, ‘Massie’s impact on Chemical Abstracts when he took over in 1992 was phenomenal. Before that time, CAS had not given the highest priority to patents, and processing of chemical patents had signifi cant delays. Massie supported his team in completely re-engineering the document handling process. During Bob’s tenure, he oversaw many important innovations such as SciFinder, STN AnaVist, and successive versions of STN Express. The
development of SciFinder was of utmost importance, providing chemists with easy and direct desktop access to patents and literature.’
The announcement was made at the International Patent
Information Conference and Exposition, IPI-ConfEx, held in Seville, Spain. The presentation ceremony will take place during the annual meeting of the Patent Information Users Group in May.
