New Brunswick’s Reversing Falls is truly a paddling experience unto itself.Yes indeed, these rapids in the middle of Saint John go backwards—twice a day. It’s not a vertical waterfall like Niagara Falls but large volume and pushy like Hell’s Canyon on the Fraser or Coliseum on the Ottawa. This is the only place in the world where the same rapid goes from flatwater to Class V+, then to flat water and then to Class V+ in the opposite direction. If you paddle the Falls get ready for the fog. It makes for some eerie paddling and great photo opps. Big water, unique features and a friendly bunch of locals make the Reversing Falls good to paddle anytime of the year. Joe Box on the Reversing Falls, Saint John, NB. photo Ryan Creary.
