Rapid Builds Bridge to the Rock My wife and I both enjoy your magazine. Often we feel isolated from the rest of the Canadian paddling community since most kayak companies forget that the eastern most point of Canada is in Newfoundland and Labrador (which means no boats or gear to demo). Your magazine helps bridge the gap. Your magazine helps provide important informa- tion for us on new boats, techniques and pad- dling destinations we can’t get anywhere else. To return the favour I have enclosed our locally made paddling DVD for your enjoyment. It fea- tures our typical river destinations—our creek- ing and ocean surfing opportunities are not fea- tured but they also abound.

2004 Grassroots Give-a-way Winners Throughout the summer Rapid attends dozens of outdoor paddling events and festi- vals. At each event there’s a free draw; we give away a pile of cool stuff. Dreamboat Sweepstakes: Winners of Scott Canoe Prospector and Necky Mission Earlier this year, Rapid and Chevy Trucks

toured the Outdoor Adventure Show circuit with stops in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto. Added to the trans-Canada tour for 2004 was the Trailhead Show in Ottawa. Over 80,000 stopped by our booth, over 5000 filled out Dreamboat Sweepstakes ballots, and two lucky winners will be paddling a new boat this sum- mer. Jacky Kee, of Richmond Hill, Ontario, will be paddling a yellow, fibreglass Scott Canoe Prospector 15. We asked Mr. Kee if he was excited about the new canoe, he asked, “When do I get it?” Darcy Mercer, of Sechelt, B.C., won herself a new Necky Mission whitewater kayak. Congratulations to you both.

Amateur Photo Annual Winners In the June issue of Rapid, sort of last minute, we announced an unofficial amateur photo contest. It was a pretty laid-back invita- tion to send us photos; we hinted that there might be prizes. Line Germain sent us this photo of Jean- Francois Dupré’s tricked out hearse. The sug- gested photo caption was, “Off Duty!” Bruce Waldie, chief official for the Alberta Whitewater Association, snapped this shot at a Totem Cup event May 9 at Canoe Meadows, Kananaskis, Alberta. Only 10 racers showed up, but the race went on. Bruce Waldie: “I had to stop the race twice because we could not see the gates on the far side of the river, it was snowing so hard!”

Hilland from the Manitoba Whitewater Club sent us a pile of white- water shots from the prairies; we like this of Sturgeon Falls. Congratulations! 
