Storage solutions Game Engineering offers innovative design solutions to industries ranging


from pet food to biomass fuel generation In 2010 Game was awarded the contract to design, supply and


install finished product storage and blending bins for a major pet food manufacturer. This most recent project is the latest phase in the development of its mill by Game Engineering, since the installation of the first extruder in 2002. Since then, numerous expansion phases have been implemented and throughout these developments Game Engineering and the client have worked closely together to construct a state of the art and an incredibly efficient pet food production mill.


In 2007 the idea of storing extruded products in bins was first discussed as the original blending plant had outgrown the needs of the ever increasing production tonnage, and the need for constant operator intervention was creating a bottleneck in the otherwise smooth operation of the plant.


In order to provide the client with the best possible solution in the design and construction of the bins, Game Engineering searched the market for a suitable high quality bin supplier, and


the final decision was to purchase the bin section of the project from SCE of Belgium. (Silo Construction Engineering Limited). SCE was chosen as it could ensure a quality product, erected on time, and at a cost effective price. Working together, the needs of the plant were assessed and a design conceived whereby the products from the two extrusion


plants could be delivered directly into the bins along new discreet conveying routes. These conveying routes carry products to the top of the bins, along the bin top and into the product bins.


The bins are of a twin skin design, with smooth internal walls and hoppers to ensure a total clean out of product and no contamination.

The entire bin block was then enclosed in Plastisol coated galvanised steel, twin skin composite cladding featuring high thermal insulation properties in order to protect the product from the effects of external temperature.

Game Engineering was also appointed to the project as dutyholders in the roles of designer, project manager and principal contractor and provided civil engineering to construct the bin foundations, and electrical engineering and installation and plant control by working closely with specialist sub contractors in these fields. In the role of principal contractor, Game Engineering was responsible for planning and controlling all aspects of the installation phase including scheduling, contractor selection and management, site safety and waste management. From this, the client could be reassured that the installation phase was conducted within the requirements of the construction design and management regulations.

The effective management of this phase of works allowed the client to concentrate on its own business without any concerns about the responsibilities and liabilities associated with running a large project hand in hand with their ongoing undertaking to produce high quality pet foods.
