Fast recovery and cost savings Restoring the image of the old server on the new one took just a few hours. In the previous setup this easily could have taken two to three days. This fast recovery of the systems does not only mean improved uptime – which is highly critical when running a 24/7 business like DV Nutrition – but is also a cost saver.
“If we needed to hire an IT specialist to come in for a few days to manually install and build up a new server, you can imagine how costly this can get. With Acronis we have tackled this potential burden on our IT budget,” said Trip.
Server downtime for DV Nutrition means that parts of the production process need to be logged and managed manually which obviously increases the risk of error and slows down the business as a whole. “Minimising server downtime has been a great step forward for us and enables us to continue to provide high volumes of quality products at all time,” adds Trip.
Industry specific requirement In the food processing industry it is a legal requirement that any organisation in the production chain can report on where their products have been distributed to. International authorities require this information when they have identified a product that could potentially harm the health of people or animals. Within four hours the complete food chain is obliged to report on this, so the authorities can take the appropriate measures to isolate the potential issue.
DV Nutrition needs to comply to these rules too. Trip said: “These types of alerts from global authorities are rare, but as an organisation in this industry you always need to be compliant and prepared. With the dramatically decreased restore times, we can guarantee that we can report within the set time, even when we are replacing old servers or if a server breaks down.”
