The production environment is non-stop operational and the machines have to run 24/7. It is of key importance that the systems are reliable and that the impact of server failure is minimized.
The company’s IT environment consists of six HP servers running two SQL databases, a Domain Controller Server, an email server, one Terminal Server and a Tarantella server. The two SQL database servers and the Domain Controller Server are business critical for DV Nutrition and require maximum uptime to ensure business continuity and automated business processes.
to use them effectively. Confidence in DR starts at the top, as the Index has shown there is a strong correlation between those with well-managed backup and DR operations and those who have supportive business execs. Companies still need support in implementing easy to use and reliable technology.
When it comes to backing up in a hybrid environment, every region cited moving data between physical, virtual and cloud environments as their greatest challenge (68%). On average businesses use two or three different backup and DR applications, which explains why they cite complexity (48%) as their second biggest challenge.
Ultimately the success of any company’s backup and DR is based on the availability of its systems regardless of the environment that its data and systems are held in. For most small to medium size businesses, a service’s success is underpinned by its ability to deliver ease of use, cost effectiveness and flexibility. Both cloud services and virtualisation can do this, so the future is bright. Managed in the right way, from one central, easy to use solution, they can offer businesses the ultimate backup and disaster recovery protection, helping all businesses to achieve the gold medal in terms of backup and DR solutions.
DV Nutrition reduces restore time from days to hours DV Nutrition, founded in 2003, is a joint venture between the Dutch dairy co-operative DOC Kaas and Volac International from the UK. The first SQL database runs the Quality Information System (QIS) that is used for quality monitoring, process logging and error tracking purposes. This QIS-application provides the process manager with valuable information throughout every step of the production process. The second SQL database includes an industry specific barcode application that enables the organization to manage the logistics of the produced goods from the factory to the warehouse where the products are stored and made ready for distribution to customers.
The Domain Controller Server serves as the company´s file system. All workstations are connected to the Domain Controller Server to enable access to the corporate file system and user´s login information to applications. Without this server, office staff would not be able to access files or applications.
To keep production levels to a maximum, the machines in the factory of DV Nutrition run non-stop, so even in case of a failure in the IT infrastructure, the factory does not halt. When a server fails, some processes need to be done manually. This can dramatically increase the chances of errors and impact the quality of the products.
Imminent need for a new server DV Nutrition´s IT Manager Willem Trip faced a serious challenge when one of the critical servers was about to crash. Previously, the company only had a solution in place for file recovery, using tape and online backups, meaning the operating system and applications had to be installed manually should a server fail. This can often be a painstakingly slow process. IT service provider !pet advised DV Nutrition to consider backup and recovery products from Acronis to make sure that the system could be restored on a new server quickly and easily.
By putting a backup and recovery solution in place DV Nutrition would be able to improve the uptime of the servers and significantly decrease the restore times when replacing end- of-life servers or in the case of a system failure.
Quick and easy solution DV Nutrition needed to replace a critical server imminently and chose Acronis True Image Echo 9 and Acronis Universal Restore to quickly respond to this. IT manager Willem Trip and his team took an image of the old server and asked Acronis reseller !pet to bring in a new and more advanced HP server.
