2011 California State Subsidized Training:
A Reality for Employers Group Members E

mployers Group has been offering California state-funded training since 1996. In these 15 years, there has been no lag in the availability of
funding until last year. With the economic recession, critical state budget issues and increased employer demand for the program and state funding has not been available to Employers Group since mid-2010.
On February 9, 2011, Employers Group was given the green light to submit a new proposal to the California Employment Training Panel (ETP_ to secure a $400,000 direct contract that will enable us to train over 700 employees at eligible employer worksites throughout the state. This funding is expected to be utilized very quickly as it is made available on a first-come, first-served basis. Currently, over 35
companies are in queue. Many of these are now determining their training and development needs through an online needs assessment administered by Employers Group.
In recent subsidized programs, Employers Group has facilitated training sessions that utilize Lean and process improvement methodologies to help trainees solve process issues within their workplaces. Trainees receive experiential learning and begin problem solving, decision making, planning and process mapping the issue or problem to create a sustainable solution. The program concludes with trainees making recommendations to senior management. This program not only builds critical-thinking skills, it enhances presentation, communication, teamwork,
