to a student? JY Te courses are very interactive and energized. When a student logs on, they see the content and read through the introduc- tion which gives them direction as to what to do next. Te stu- dents see videos and simula- tions, and actually do hands-on activities like projects with other students. We offer illumi- nate rooms which are live class- rooms that students go in to interact with their teacher and other students. Tese rooms allow students to talk and work on proj- ects with the other students taking the course. Tey can write a prob- lem on the board, and the teacher will mark it up in real time and that is then visible to everyone in the class. Te illuminate room simulates a traditional classroom in an online environment. Every Friday our full-time middle school students go in one of the illumi- nate rooms to have recess.

BIO In 1997 Julie Young pioneered the launch of Florida Virtual School for providing quality, online courses to students throughout Florida. Her vi- sion resulted in Florida Virtual School becoming the largest provider of Internet-based courseware and
instruction for middle and high school students. Young began her career as a classroom teacher and served as an administrator and leading e- Learning expert and advocate, playing an important role in charting the course of virtual K-12 education. Young was recognized by Technology and Learning Magazine as one of the Top 30 influencers in Ed Tech along with Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. Young earned her Master of Science in Adminis- tration and Supervision from the University of South Florida and Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Kentucky.
