DECORATIVE ARTS Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) hosts ‘Masterpieces of the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection’, an exhibition of paintings, drawings, photographs, diaries and collages by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera running from 6 April to 26 June 2011. www.modernart.ie


Dearc 150 To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the RDS Taylor Art Award for students, the RDS is hosting a ret- rospective exhibition of Irish art featuring works from artists such as Walter Osborne, SirWilliam Orpen, Seán Keating, Melanie le Brocquy and Louis le Brocquy, alongside contemporary artists such as Eamon O’Kane and James Hanley. MUSIC Carlos Núñez Galician musician Carlos Núñez returns to the National Concert Hall on 15 March with a show based on his Alborada do Brasil album. www.nch.ie


Cork International Choral Festival The best of choral and vocal music will be celebrated at the 57th Cork International Choral Festival, which takes place from 27 April to 1 May 2011. www.corkchoral.ie

Philip Taaffe – Anima Mundi This exhibition of the work of American painter Philip Taaffe, fea- turing 34 mixed media, mostly abstract paintings from the last 10 years, runs at IMMA from 23 March to 12 June 2011. www.modernart.ie


Miró The first major retrospective of the Catalan surrealist painter Joan Miró in the UK for nearly 50 years takes place at the Tate Modern in London from 14 April to 11 September 2011. www.tate.org.uk


The Commitments To mark the 20th anniversary of The Commitments, stars from the original film are regrouping for concerts in The O2 in Dublin, The Royal Theatre in Castlebar, The INEC in Killarney


and The Odyssey Arena Belfast between 14 and 19 March 2011.


THEATRE ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ Celebrating the centenary of Tennessee Williams’ birth, the Gate Theatre presents his 1955 Pulitzer Prize winning classic, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, from 5 April 2011. www.gatetheatre.ie


Paul Mercier premieres The Abbey Theatre is hosting the world premieres of two Paul Mercier plays: The East Pier, about a couple reunited after 25 years; and The Passing, the story of Catherine who reassesses her relationship with the family home, and the family itself, when the house is put up for sale. The plays run from 11 March to 16 April 2011. www.abbeytheatre.ie


The Sound of Music The ever-popular tale of the von Trapp family, with Jason Donovan as Captain von Trapp, comes to the Grand Canal Theatre, Dublin directly from the London Palladium, running from 5 to 30 April 2011. www.grandcanaltheatre.ie


FESTIVALS St Patrick’s Festival Events at this year’s festival in Dublin include the annual parade, fun fairs around the city, a literary treasure hunt, skyfest, comedy, concerts and walking tours. www.stpatricksfestival.ie

‘Titanic’ commemoration The 100th anniversary of the launch of the RMS Titanic is being marked with exhibitions, talks, tours, films and plays in Belfast, where it was designed and built, as part of the Titanic 100 programme, which starts on 31March and runs through to 31 May 2011. www.belfastcity.gov.uk/titanic
