ASQ WINNERS You win again

Asia-Pacifi c airports shine again in the 2010 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) passenger satisfaction survey.

Worldwide 1. Seoul Incheon 2. Singapore 3. Hong Kong 4. Beijing 5. Shanghai Pudong

I

t appears that there is no end to Incheon’s Airport Service Quality (ASQ) success story, South Korea’s customer service king recently being named best airport on the planet for the sixth successive year. Incheon – which narrowly beat Singapore Changi to the prize of Best

Airport Worldwide in ACI’s annual passenger satisfaction awards – completed a memorable hat-trick as it was also voted the top airport in Asia-Pacifi c and the 20-40mppa category. Hong Kong, Beijing–Capital and Shanghai–Pudong completed the

top fi ve best airports in the world, according to the record number of passengers surveyed by ACI throughout 2010. And the city of Seoul has double reason to celebrate this year as

Incheon’s near neighbour, Gimpo, was voted best in the highly competitive 15-25mppa category. The fact that Mumbai, Vancouver, Taipei and Shenzhen were voted

the next best in the 15-25mppa section should come as no surprise to anyone as Asia-Pacifi c airports once again dominated proceedings, winning the top prize in four of the fi ve prestigious ‘size’ categories in addition to Best Airport Worldwide. Other Asia-Pacifi c airports to come out on top in 2010 included

Hyderabad – which edged out Nagoya in the 5-15mppa category – and Hong Kong, which scooped the over 40mppa award. But Asia-Pacifi c airports didn’t have it all their own way –

Ottawa fi nally ended Halifax’s seven year winning streak in the 2-5mppa section. By region, Malta took the crown in Europe, improving from

fourth spot in 2009 to fi nish ahead of Porto, Zürich, Copenhagen and Edinburgh. Indianapolis pulled off a stunning victory in North America, shading

top spot from Ottawa. Austin-Bergstrom, Halifax and Vancouver completed the top fi ve. Cancún retained its title in the Latin America & Caribbean region,

once again narrowly seeing off the challenge of Guayaquil. The other top performing gateways in ACI-LAC were San José,

Montego Bay and Mexico City. Elsewhere, Dubai beat off the challenge of Abu Dhabi to earn the

title of best airport in the Middle East while Cape Town was named best airport in Africa for the fi rst time. Tel Aviv, which had won in the Middle East category for the last three years fi nished third this time, just ahead of Doha and Damman.
