STAYING IN... ASIA-PACIFIC Some 20 international and local hotel groups are represented in the Asia-Pacific region. Offering the style and service for which the region’s hospitality sector is renowned, they can be found in every capital city.


 Accor Hotels The French group operates 400 hotels in the region, with 40 opening in 2010 and more planned. Of its 18 brands, Mercure, Novotel, Pullman and Ibis are variously found in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand.


 Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts Banyan Tree and its luxury Angsana brand have 20 properties worldwide, with hotels in Seoul and Bangkok included in its Asia-Pacific portfolio. Five new hotels are planned in China.


 Equatorial Hotels The group operates seven hotels in the region, offering top quality accommodation in cities such as Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur, as well as more leisure-oriented destinations.


 Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts The group operates 20 hotels in Asia-Pacific, with business-oriented properties located in Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Sydney and Tokyo. It is focusing its development plans on China, opening a number of properties last year, with more hotels in the pipeline.


 Hilton Worldwide A pioneer in Asia-Pacific hotel development, Hilton operates some 69 properties across the region. Brands represented in Australasia, China, Japan, Korea and Malaysia include Conrad, Waldorf Astoria, Doubletree and Hilton Garden Inn. At least 15 new hotels will open this year.


 Hyatt Hotels & Resorts Hyatt operates 58 hotels in Asia-Pacific, with properties in almost every principal city across the region. As part of the group’s ambitious development plans, four hotels will open in China this year.


 Berjaya Hotels & Resorts Based in Kuala Lumpur, the group offers hotels, spas and golf resorts throughout Malaysia, including the flagship Berjaya Times Square in the capital. In a portfolio of ten hotels in the region, it also operates the Berjaya Singapore.


 Best Western The group has 181 hotels in Australia and 13 in New Zealand, with representation in every major city. It has recently opened three properties in Queensland.


 Choice Hotels Choice has 232 hotels in Australia, 32 in New Zealand, five in China and 40 in Japan. The group is focusing its development plans on China, with plans to open 15 properties across the Asia-Pacific region this year.


 InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) The group has 279 properties in Asia-Pacific, with a number of its stylish brands present in the region’s major business centres. These include those in Australia, New Zealand, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. A further 224 hotels are planned across the region.


 Mandarin Oriental Mandarin Oriental has 13 hotels in the Asia- Pacific region, with properties in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Tokyo, Manila and Jakarta. A further property will open in Shanghai in 2013.


 Marriott Hotels The US-based hotel group has 132 exclusive hotels in the region, with another 60 approved or currently under construction. Found in key business locations, they include the Ritz- Carlton and JW Marriott properties.


 Starwood Hotels & Resorts With around 170 hotels in the region across eight out of its nine brands, Starwood properties are present in Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. Over 100 new properties are in the pipeline.


 Meritus Hotels & Resorts Singapore-based Meritus has six five-star properties in Asia-Pacific. In addition to the flagship Mandarin Orchard Singapore, it has a second hotel in the city, and is present in Malaysia and China.


 Millennium Hotels and Resorts The group has 18 hotels in the region, located in Beijing, Shanghai, Bangkok, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Singapore. The Millennium Vee Hotel Taichung, Taiwan, is due to open in late 2011.


 Rendezvous Hospitality Group With its headquarters in Singapore, the group has 14 hotels across the region, operating under the upscale Rendezvous and mid- scale Marque brands. Properties are located in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Singapore, Shanghai, Auckland and Christchurch. An expansion programme is underway.


 Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Hong Kong-based Shangri-La operates 57 hotels across Asia-Pacific, with representation in every major city. The China World Summit Wing opened in Beijing last summer, followed by the Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore, in January this year, and the Kerry Hotel, Pudong Shanghai one month later.
