he insurance profession has always envied its accountancy and legal counterparts in that the latter can endorse their professionalism (and fees!) to the wide world because they have to be qualified by examination.
But is that entirely true? Not everyone working for accountants and legal firms is qualified. In that respect, the insurance industry is now moving to the point where the same level of demarcation may one day apply.
A further issue on the legal side is that some solicitors and legal firms cannot obtain professional indemnity cover. That poses an interesting question, as presumably some legal players are more professional than others?
That failing is referred to more fully in this issue in the article on page 14.
