These airsoft models feature select-fire capabilities and are close look-alikes of well-known military rifles.
Gamo’s Whisper barrel-cocking springer is quite potent and incorporates an integral, non-detachable sound suppressor. It is available in a choice of .177 or .22 caliber.
airgun become truly impressive. Besides all of the above, airguns
offer the opportunity to sharpen your shooting skills to a very high degree without burning any gunpowder. Hunters, for instance, can keep their skill up to par during the off season by practicing with a suitable air rifle. The bottom line is, airguns excel
when it comes to affordable recre- ational
shooting. Plinking is actu-
ally tailor-made for airguns. Person- ally, I derive far more pleasure out of bouncing a tin can around with a pel- let rifle (or pistol) than from punching bull’s-eyes in 10-meter paper targets. Formal 10-meter airgun competition never appealed much to me. I’d rather blast a marauding rodent with a pet air rifle or pistol. In fact, my combat
shooting skills are apt to improve with this type of airgun shooting. There are literally hundreds of
adult-grade airguns to choose from these days. Price and intended use should guide the selection. In the area of air rifles I am partial to spring-piston types. Highly reputa- ble companies make the majority of these overseas. Domestic manufac- turers, such as Crosman and Daisy, produce mostly superb pneumatic (pump-up) and CO2-powered mod- els, very reasonably priced. Gener- ally these make good entry-level pel- let rifles of sufficient power for most home shooting uses. In the area of air pistols there
are now lots of pellet and BB-firing handguns to satisfy all tastes and
pocketbooks. Interestingly, most of the latest models are CO2 powered and mimic the looks and “feel” of a wide variety of centerfire hand- guns — particularly semi-autos. This means folks interested in sharpening their defensive/combat shooting skills have never had it so good. The new- est trend in CO2 pistol development includes quite a few models with real- istic blowback actions that duplicate rather closely the function of real powder-burning autoloaders. One of the main suppliers of
CO2-powered pellet and BB-firing handguns is Umarex USA. This Arkansas-based company distributes approximately
2-dozen, semi-auto
look-alikes. Some merely resemble semi-autos but employ basic repeating
The distaff side also enjoys blazing away with this select-fire airsoft version of the M-14 combat rifle used by our armed forces before the advent of the M-16.
