There are several flashlight techniques for use with a handgun. Ideally, you would employ them all based on the situation at hand.

The new PROTAC family of tactical lights are lightweight, ultra-com- pact and offer strobing, all at a price that won’t break the bank.

a very long time, can vary in color and are energy efficient and resistant to impact. They are more expensive than incandescent bulbs but deliver extremely long runtimes at low illu- mination levels.

The Right Light Flashlight companies offer wide

assortments of flashlights to fit a multitude of needs. Sorting through the

selections can be a confusing

and daunting task. SureFire has set the standard high when it comes to flashlights and they are sure to offer a model that suits you. Here is a look at four SureFire lights. These are the lights my family and I routinely use and trust to be ready should we need to fight off those bad things that show up in the dark. Choose wisely. You’re not just

buying a flashlight — you’re buying a safety device. It needs to be depend- able and bright enough to perform the tasks you will ask of it. And re-

member, everything looks better with light on it. Well, almost; there was this girl I met in a bar one night ...

most of the time. My wife has one in her purse and my son keeps one in his backpack because when he catches the school bus its dark. This little light runs off one 123A lithium battery and produces 110 lumens. It is only 4" long and weighs less than 3 ounces. The Backup is a dual-output flash-

light developed as a duty light for plainclothes officers or as a backup light for patrol officers. It has a vir- tually indestructible, power-regulat- ed, LED emitter and a push-button, tail-cap switch to let you activate the flashlight and select output level. Press or click for a 110-lumen high beam. Release or click off and press or click again for a 5-lumen ultra- long-runtime low beam that’s perfect for just walking around in the dark. It

A common cliché is that “God made all men and Sam Colt made them equal.” While that has some truth to it, bright light can be an equalizer as well. When prop- erly applied, bright light can shift the bal- ance of the fight.

also has a 2-way bezel clip. The Back- up retails for $139.

SureFire LX2 LumaMax In my nightstand you’ll find a LX2

LumaMax flashlight. With its 200 lumens of power, it’s all I need to light up the longest distance inside my house or my entire yard. I also have one of these lights clipped to my hunting pack primarily because it of- fers a low power, long run time, 15-lu- men beam that is sufficient for walk- ing out of the deep woods in the dark. This is also a great light to carry.

Like the Backup it has a smooth body so it will not tear or excessively wear clothing. When it comes to tactical lights, this is a great choice due to the high output you might need in a bad situation. Even the most wicked troll on earth can’t stare into this beam. The long-runtime, low-output beam will let you walk all night. If you’re looking for a bedside or truck light, the LX2 is a great choice. Suggested retail, $195.

SureFire G2X Pro If you are on a budget and want

a serious amount of illumination at a great price, SureFire’s G2X Pro might be your best bet. This light retails for less than $70, produces an amazing 200 lumens on high output and 15 lumens on low output. That’s the same level of illumination you get with the LX2 for $125 less. On top of that, the G2X Pro only weighs 4.4 ounces and is only 5.2" long. Like the LX2 and most SureFire lights, the G2X has a push-button tail cap for
