bulk of firing was with the Wolf steel cased 55-gr. and Century HotShot brass cased 62-gr. ammunition. The Century imported 5.56mm featured the steel penetrator as designated by the SS109 label. I frequently visit Century’s website for surplus am- munition offering. The C15A1 expe- rienced over 600 rounds fired during this review with no issues encoun- tered of any kind. Accuracy with the C15A1 Sport-

er was more than acceptable with the open sights producing 2" to 2.5" groups at 100 yards with the ammuni- tion tested. A magnified optic mount- ed on the C15’s carry handle would have surely produced better results by not being handicapped by my eye- sight limitations. This is an option that someone could pursue by affix- ing a scope base into the carry handle allowing for an optic to be added. In- terestingly, the Leupold Mk 4 CQ/T 1-3x sight can attach directly to the carry handle due to the way Leupold has designed the CQ/T’s base. It is up to the individual owner to decide if adding a sight to the carry handle is a necessity. Many will contend it impacts the handling of the C15A1 and provides a less than satisfactory cheek weld arrangement. The A1 sight was conducive to

wringing better accuracy out of the C15A1 rifle compared to more crude AK notch and post sights. A huge benefit of the C15 is the multitude of AR magazines available from vari- ous manufacturers. I have come to trust Brownells for my AR maga- zines. They are the manufacturer of AR magazines for our armed forces and though these exact magazines are not available, surely the quality con- trol spills over into the civilian prod- uct line. There is something nostal- gic about using 20-round magazines with the C15, though 30-rounders are probably more practical due to in- creased capacity. Along these same lines nearly every tactical-webbing- gear manufacturer in the US offers products to carry AR magazines ranging from chest rigs, vests, thigh subloads, belt pouches, etc. I usually defer to BLACKHAWK! for my web products and use a BLACKHAWK! chest rig and Bandoleer style, AR- magazine carrier at the range. The BLACKHAWK! Bandoleer style will appeal to many with its ability to ac- commodate two pistol magazines in conjunction with four AR magazines. The BLACKHAWK! Bandoleer can be grabbed in a hurry and thrown over your shoulder while also hastily grabbing the Century C15 Sporter. For civilians, four spare magazines

plus one in the C15 is plenty to solve most issues that would call for the C15 Sporter in the first place.

Practice! A couple of the range drills em-

ployed the C15A1 in conjunction with the BLACKHAWK! Bando- leer magazine carrier. One drill be- gan by engaging targets at 35 yards and 115 yards with the C15A1. Tar- gets were engaged five times each starting from the standing, mov- ing to another location, five more rounds from kneeling and finally moving yet again, transitioning to the prone with five more rounds each, reloading as necessary. I asked a couple of training partners to handle the Century C15A1 with this format. Each had brought dif- ferent rifles to the range, consisting of AKs and optic-mounted AR-15s, before being drafted by me to as- sist in evaluating the C15A1. Each came away as complimentary of the C15A1 handling and combat accu- racy. Tighter groups were produced with the C15A1, especially com- pared to the AKs. I attribute this to lighter weight of the C15A1, less re- coil impulse, better sights and qual- ity of the C15 manufacturing. Anyone who chooses to take

advantage of the Century C15 Sporter should take heart that millions of M16A1s were pro- duced and, even though phased out in US service, the M16A1 still sees heavy use in the Israeli and Filipino armed services, not to mention many US law enforce- ment agencies. The basic design is successful and comes through in the Century offering. *
