IN AN ORDER worth around US$1.8 billion for Airbus, Korean carrier Asiana Airlines has confirmed it will acquire six A380s, for delivery between 2014 and 2017, as it seeks to expand its services from Asia to Europe and the US.
JAPAN AIRLINES is to change its logo as of 1 April, symbolising what it calls “a fresh start” for the carrier. The new logo is of a Japanese red-crown crane with wings extended in flight.
BOEING says it now expects delivery of the first B787 ‘Dreamliner’ aircraft in the third quarter of this year. Problems identified in the flight testing caused the hold up.
NCS ramps up to handle ABC in North America
TORONTO-BASED air cargo general sales and services agent Network Cargo Systems, Inc (NCS) was first chosen by Russian all-cargo carrier AirBridgeCargo (ABC) to market its capacity in the US and Canada in January 2010 and: “We are starting to ramp up in terms of office space, staff and overall commitment,” says NCS president Howard Jones. ABC is to offer a new North American cargo service from Chicago O’Hare, taking in
Amsterdam Aiport Schiphol, Moscow Sheremetyevo and Almaty, twice a week with a B747-400F –“a pretty big commitment”, he added. ABC is not the GSSA’s only new customer. It also recently won a three-year contract to
market the cargo space of Canadian carrier Jazz on its B757 flights into countries such as Cuba and Mexico, as well as its Caribbean services into destinations including Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. The airline’s schedule into this region is building up. In May, with the peak season for
flights into these warmer climes reaching its peak, the bellyhold capacity available will be significant, Jones pointed out. The third new carrier at NCS is Hainan Airlines, which now offers three A340 flights a
week direct to Beijing from Toronto. While the majority of Canada’s Chinese-destined air freight flies into Shanghai, the
Chinese capital remains an important connection and he is very positive about the prospects for the new service.
SIA and EVA to buy shares in China Cargo
SINGAPORE Airlines Cargo (SIA Cargo) and Concord Pacific (an affiliate company of Taiwan-based EVA Airways) are each to acquire a 16 percent stake in Shanghai-based China Cargo Airlines, although the deals remain subject to regulatory approval. The agreements were reached in
December and the hope is that China Cargo Airlines will be reorganised into a limited

liability Chinese-foreign equity joint venture company. Currently, the freight carrier is 70 percent
owned by China Eastern Airlines and 30 percent by China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO), but if the deals gain approval it will be 51 percent owned by China Eastern, 17 percent by COSCO, 16 percent by Concord Pacific and 16 percent by SIA Cargo.
