THAI AIRWAYS Cargo flew 17 percent more freight tonne-km in November last year than in the same month of 2009. Freight capacity rose by 18.2 percent year-on-year and the cargo load factor was 61.1 percent.

PHILIPPINES carrier Cebu Pacific has confirmed that it will begin flying from Manila to Busan on 15 June. It already operates four times a week services between the South Korean city and Cebu.
QANTAS IS TO inaugurate a four times a week non-stop B747-400 service between Sydney and Dallas/Fort Worth International airport on 16 May. The carrier’s current Sydney - San Francisco service will be axed on 14 May.
Changi airport adds new Singapore - China links
IN ITS YEAR-END figures, Singapore’s Changi airport reports on strong air freight traffic growth during 2010. The amount of cargo handled at the busy gateway, where a commercial flight lands or takes off every two minutes, registered slightly more than 1.81 million tonnes, an 11 percent rise on 2009. Aircraft movements rose by 9.7 percent, with more than 264,000 flights being handled. According to a statement from Changi Airports Group (CAG), which is responsible for
operating the gateway, “after a very difficult period in 2008-09, the cargo sector continued its return to growth for the 15th consecutive month with air freight handled in December 2010 rising by 4.1 percent year-on-year to 155,800 tonnes”. For the 12-month period that ended in October last year, Changi airport was the world’s
seventh-busiest airport in terms of international freight traffic handled, the CAG statement said. The CEO of the airport group, Lee Seow Hiang, noted: “We recovered strongly from the economic downturn to grow traffic to record levels.” In 2010, nine new airlines started operations at Changi, including four freighter
operators. New city links were also added to Changi’s network during the year, of which four are in China – Guilin, Hefei, Shantou and Qingdao.
Cargo volumes boost Etihad result
ABU DHABI-BASED UAE flag- carrier Etihad Airways says its cargo division performed particularly strongly in 2010, with revenues rising by an impressive 57.4 percent over 2009. This result helped to drive a
29.2 percent rise in total airline revenue during the course of last year. The carrier reported a total
revenue of US$2.95 billion for 2010, marking continued progress towards

its goal of breaking even this year and then going into profitability in 2012. Etihad Airways CEO James
Hogan commented: “In a year in which we dealt with the continuing effects of global recession, erupting volcanoes, riots in Thailand, and severe weather across Europe at one of our busiest times of year, we were still able to deliver an impressive
performance.”
