With no formal sewing training, Kat makes patterns from old pieces and upsizes them to fit the more modern figure – never holding back on color, texture or embellishment. Her designs are very wearable but often flirt with costume, an area that Kat said she would like to explore someday.
“Right now I’m going off of what I feel. I really, really love it,” Kat said. “I am finally finding my niche market and a way to sustain a one of a kind, limited edition operation.”
True to her Midwestern roots, Kat said she feels at times like a “wizard behind a curtain” with the brand she is cultivating. But behind that rich velvet drape, a girl who once wore a full-blown Annie costume to school just because she liked the play is living the dream she never knew she had.
