“This image pretty much created itself. With a river-wide log spanning the river just above a little surf wave, I knew I’d be able to capture a hard-to-get angle if I shimmied out across the log. I also slowed down the shutter speed to al- low for some motion blur hoping to add some- thing extra to the image.”

“It’s not often that you get to look down on a helicopter, but being able to set up on top of the Batoka Gorge and having a pilot that was prepared to take risks made it possible. He was flying so low that at times his skis were actually touching the water. A low-flying chopper presents some risks for the paddler also. It’s easy to be blinded by spray or blown right off your line.”
