PADDLER: TYLER CURTIS FORRA RIVER, NORWAY
“The photo is taken from a small island on the Forra, just above a 12-metre drop. I had to swim across to it, so I wasn’t able to bring much gear, just a camera and a throwbag. I wanted to take the photo from behind to recreate the feeling of actually paddling the drop. The water was run- ning so fast I had to face downriver and I couldn’t hear Tyler when he paddled toward me, so I had to wait until I could see him in my lens and then fire. I had just one chance to get this shot.”
PADDLER: SPENCER COX Ryan Creary RIGHT JOHNSTON CANYON, ALBERTA
“Johnston Canyon is a photographer’s dream. Five or six waterfalls are packed into a short hike up a paved pathway. Add a crew of three or four boaters and you get lots of opportunity to experi- ment with different angles. I shot this 25-footer relatively tight to showcase the limbo log and Spencer’s rock-solid boof.”
