BCS open meeting on NHS Information Strategy B
CS, The Chartered Institute for IT, will be holding two open
debates for health informatics and IT professionals to gather input to the response that they will be submitting to the Department of Health’s NHS Information Revolution consultation.
The meetings in Leeds and London will include presentations from senior Department of Health figures and workshop sessions to gather views.
The first meeting will be held on 22 November 2010 at the Metropole Hotel Leeds and will include presentations from Paul Jones, NHS CTO and
Kathy Mason, Director, strategy & planning, explaining the thinking behind the consultation Liberating the NHS: An Information Revolution. A workshop session will provide an opportunity to debate the issues and feed back to the Department of Health, as well as providing input to the independent BCS formal response to the consultation.
Matthew Swindells, chair of BCS Health, said “The government has outlined their overall plans for the NHS in the white paper, and it is clear that the approach to information will be crucial to the success or failure of the new policy.
“This consultation is an
opportunity for informatics professionals to shape an information strategy that will define much of how the NHS looks to patients, carers and clinicians in the next decade and beyond.”
BCS will produce a formal response to the Department of Health, and this work is being led by Dr Justin Whatling, vice chair for strategy and policy in BCS Health.
“Those producing the NHS information strategy need to be able to draw on a broad professional view of how informatics can turn visions and
ambitions into real, functioning health and social care services. We see this as a major opportunity to further the BCS charter, ensuring that IT is used for real public benefit.”
The meetings will be open to any interested parties, with an intended focus on informatics. Registration is required, and places are available on a first- come-first-served basis.
The second event will be held at BCS, First Floor, The Davidson Building, 5 Southampton Street, London, WC2E 7HA on 3 December.
