might pop up. But a strange thing happened: the year was pretty much a blur in my mind, and it was impos- sible to refl ect on events I couldn't remember. So, be- ing a charts and graphs kinda girl, I started pulling out calendars and emails and other records, and I made a timeline for 2010. Stunned by the enormity of the life-changing
B events crammed into twelve months, I decided to back
up and do the same thing for 2009. Then for 2008 (I was on a roll). Wow, I thought, no wonder my memories are such a blur. Why all the
upheavals? Why the many changes? Was it because we are getting older, and with age comes more change? I stopped to think about the rest of my family, my grown children, my friends, some of you readers that I've gotten to know, and yes, even just the news, itself, biased though it can be. I realized that age had little to do with it. The past few years have been a
whirlwind. Almost literally a whirlwind—as though a tornado swept many of us up and bounced and swirled and tossed us along a path from Point A to Point R or W, without much time to think about it. I really don't mind the whirlwind and the change, since I'm fortunate to have
a rock-solid family for an anchor, and "fi xing things" seems to be my mission in life. What I do mind, however, is the blur. The not remembering. The passing of life without really living in the moment. This month's theme is Awakening Consciousness, and with this issue completed I'm only now beginning to realize just how timely it is. Several articles this month discuss ways to remind us of a bigger purpose in everyday activities; ways to live more consciously and more purposefully. While I don't think I'll make an offi cial New Year's Resolution, because I
traditionally don't do well at those, I do plan to make several copies of the quote at the bottom of this page and stick them to my bathroom mirror, my dashboard, my computer screen, and anywhere else I can think of. Life shouldn't be a blur. Life should be an awakening.
