Driving growth through innovation
One story style the printing industry is never short of is the humble case study, typically illustrating the results of a close working partnership between a print provider and its customer. The Hallmarks of great case studies tend to revolve around technical innovations leading to new value added print products and services. Looking at the roadmap for the UK economy over the next four years, I’m guessing that
innovation-based, value-added services are likely to take centre stage when compared with price- driven commodity sales. There seems little doubt that as public sector revenue slowly seeps away, the departments
most effected will divert their remaining revenue to front-line services and the salaries of their full time employees. Thus, outsourced print services could suffer. Given that every cloud has a silver lining, this should provide a new wakeup call to printers, highlighting the simple fact that suppliers of printers, consumables, inks and associated products and services are themselves continuing to invest in innovations that are specifically designed to broaden the value-added services printers can offer their customers. If you don’t believe me just read the rest of this issue for cast iron confirmation. Economic growth will ebb and flow over the coming months and years, just like it always does
over time. This will lead to headlines of great joy followed by more headlines of doom. I plan to ignore this and concentrate on listening to customers’ needs and introducing low cost, incremental developments that provide competitive advantage. I recommend you at least think along similar lines.
