A range of printable vinyl media for short to medium-term indoor application to virtually all surfaces has been launched by Amari Digital Supplies. Manufactured by Asphalt Art International, the media is available in five formats: Cat Walk, Clear Walk, Sport Walk, Soft Walk and Lumi Walk. Key advantages include anti-slip and anti-abrasion qualities, easy application and removal, flame, chemical and water resistance and a capability for being cut and formed into multiple shapes using a standard cutting plotter. All media can be printed using screen or digital methods involving UV ink technology.


Cat Walk can be used indoors in dry or wet areas such as bathrooms, saunas and swimming


Sport Walk is a heavily embossed anti-slip vinyl material with a strong adhesive system. It appeals for sports venues but is equally effective in street marketing. Soft Walk can be applied as a carpet, consisting of polyethylene covered with soft vinyl foam and an anti-bacterial coating. The product is both washable and reusable.


Finally, Lumi Walk is a self- adhesive luminescent foil incorporating a non-skid surface coating. It is particularly effective in situations where safety is a consideration and can also be used for floor advertising, especially during the winter months.

New drive system speeds printing


Experiences gained in solar cell printing have been incorporated into Essemtec's Tucano automatic stencil printer. The printer now boasts a cycle time of less than 10


seconds and accuracy better than 12µm with high reliability and low operating cost.


Various improvements make this speed and accuracy possible: a welded frame construction, new damping technology and new drive system. Minimal vibrations equates to shorter transport and alignment times, while a new 1µm encoder system increases precision.


Tucano also uses only one XY drive system for the vision camera, the 2D inspection, the stencil cleaning, the stencil feeding system and the PCB stopper. This saves space and reduces maintenance cost.

Other highlights include creating multicopy jobs directly in Productionserver 6, whereby the Colorgate RIP automatically duplicates the cutting paths and can determine the tool or the combination of tools and tool heads to cut the job in the RIP environment. Mimaki’s JFX-plus series flatbed UV printers now achieve a maximum print speed of 23.6m2/h thanks to a post-curing unit where printed ink receives a secondary cure after the initial cure from the head carriage mounted lamps. The maximum print speed of the JFX-plus series is now 80 per cent faster than the previous maximum print speed of the JFX- 1631. Mimaki’s UV LED curing also enables printing to heat sensitive substrates, as curing diodes do not generate excessive heat and therefore eliminate media deformation and colour changes. Two different sizes are


available: JFX-1615plus featuring a maximum print size of 1,602 by 1,500mm and the JFX-1631plus with a maximum print size of 1,602 by 3,100mm.


An optional automatic roll unit for unattended and uninterrupted web printing can also be added to the printer. This enables short run print orders to be efficiently processed and printed.


Unattended, overnight continuous printing for large volume orders also allows quick turnarounds to be more readily achieved.
