Enjoy a morning at the World of James Herriot in Thirsk. Wander through the home and surgery of the famous vet and visit the adjacent museum with hands- on exhibits. Feeling thirsty? Head over to Black Sheep Brewery in Masham to find out how the award-winning ales are lovingly brewed before enjoying a scrummy, locally-sourced lunch at the Bistro and Baa…r. Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, a spectacular world heritage site in Ripon, is the perfect place to spend the afternoon. Explore the abbey ruins, Georgian water gardens and medieval deer park.
NOSTALGIA DAY
Start your day at the Allied Air Forces Memorial Museum in Elvington. Originally a WWII bomber command station, it now houses a collection of over 43 aircraft including the famous Halifax bomber. Visit the control tower, sit in a cockpit and take tea in the NAAFI. In the afternoon, move on to Eden Camp at Malton to experience the sights, sounds and smells of life on the home front and front line.

Hop on a bike and enjoy beautiful countryside with Scoot Cycling, or venture to Dalby Forest and hire a mountain bike at the Purple Mountain Bike Centre before swinging through the trees at high wire forest adventure, Go Ape! Lose yourself in the York Maze, the largest maize maze in the world, or tee off at one of the area’s famous golf courses.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is the perfect starting point for a day at the coast. Enjoy spectacular views from aboard a magnificent steam engine as you ride through the dramatic countryside of the North York Moors National Park to the seaside town of Whitby. Once there, visit the abbey as well as the Captain Cook Memorial Museum… and be sure to indulge in some delicious fish and chips! Two of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s designated nature reserves can be found along the coast. Flamborough Head is renowned for its spectacular chalk cliffs and sea caves whilst the long sandy Spurn Point provides a Mecca for bird watchers.
