ITINERARIES


24 hours in York


9.30AM:


Begin your visit by stepping back in time at the award winning York Castle Museum.


11.00AM:


Wander past the impressive Clifford’s Tower to the ever popular JORVIK Viking Centre.


12.00 NOON:


Stroll along the cobbled Shambles, York’s most photographed medieval street. Then grab some lunch at a traditional tearoom, or recharge at one of the stylish eateries in The Quarter.


1.30PM:


A trip to York would not be complete without a visit to York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral north of the Alps. Don’t forget your camera to capture the breathtaking views from the top of the tower.


2.30PM:


Feeling peckish? Rest your legs and indulge in a scrumptious afternoon tea.


3.30PM:


Head for the National Railway Museum to see the finest collection of trains and rolling stock anywhere in the world.


5.00PM:


Sip a drink by the river whilst you decide in which of the city’s excellent restaurants to dine.


7.30PM ONWARDS:


After an early dinner, join one of York’s infamous ghost walks or take an evening cruise down the river on YorkBoat.

10.00AM:


After a hearty Yorkshire breakfast, walk a stretch of the historic City Walls, taking in the views over the city.


11.00AM:


For those brave enough, a trip to the York Dungeon is a great way to learn about some of the city’s darker history.


12.00 NOON:


Take time to visit some tucked away treasures. The stunning Merchant Adventurers’ Hall on Fossgate is one of the best preserved medieval guild halls in the world whilst Treasurer’s House, not far from York Minster, houses a remarkable collection of antique furniture along with an infamous ghost or two!


1.00PM:


Put a picnic together from one of York’s tempting delis and head to the beautiful Museum Gardens to lunch amongst the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey. The Yorkshire Museum has recently undergone a major refurbishment and showcases some of the finest collections of archaeological and geological finds in Europe.


2.00PM:


Take a ride out to Castle Howard, home to the Howard family. Situated in 1000 acres of breathtaking parkland, there is plenty to explore and children will love the adventure playground.


7.30PM:


Finish a busy day with fantastic food in a quality restaurant. Fossgate and Walmgate are well renowned ‘gastro’ streets with a collection of diverse and award winning eateries. Or why not opt for an ‘early bird’ menu followed by a performance at one of the city’s theatres.


9.30PM: YorkBoat 8 York Minster


Experience warm Yorkshire hospitality and hand pulled ales at one of the city’s 365 pubs.
