Seeing is believing The M-Series remains the only thermal imaging camera especially developed for maritime applications that is able to produce a thermal image of 640 x 480 pixels. Moreover, the combination with a daylight/ lowlight camera ensures crisp thermal images at all times. Since winning the Award, we have expanded the range to include versions with 320 x 240 pixel images and thermal imaging cameras only. This allows a wide variety of versions adapted to budget and the M-Series has found its way onboard many vessels worldwide. Other existing products for the maritime sector have also been improved. For example, we developed and introduced a very successful handheld thermal imaging camera.


Winning the DAME generated enormous publicity for both company and product, raising our brand recognition. The exposure also radically enhanced the technological awareness of thermal imaging. Although FLIR Systems is market leader in thermal imaging cameras, the benefits are still quite new to many potential users. Our goal is to ensure these cameras will become widespread tools, implemented on many yachts and commercial vessels as standard in the same way as radar is today. Radar is a great tool but the only thing you get is a blip on a radar screen. Thermal imaging allows captains to see with their own eyes what is happening, even in total darkness.


Overall it is clear that winning the DAME Award, in on category or overall, makes a product widely accepted by a vast number of potential users who recognise the expertise of the jury.

JURY STATEMENT 2009 This system incorporates a micro-lux, low-light camera for improved visibility during twilight hours and a 26-degree field of view – an improvement of 25% over previous cameras. The judges were impressed by the unit’s sleek design, Ethernet capability, and ease of installation by any OEM. The unit is operated with a remote joystick from anywhere on the vessel. While the cost is relatively high, the Jury felt that the unit provides user satisfaction beyond anything currently on the market. Even in total darkness the captain of a vessel can see channel markers, other boats, people in the water, and the shore line from greater distances than ever before.
