INDUSTRY NEWS Ridi acquires spectral lighting Online testing

from NICEIC NICEIC has launched its new ‘blended’ Inspection and Test 2392-10 course, which is designed to reduce the amount of time contractors have to spend away from their work. Developed in association with Virtual College, the new course follows on from the NICEIC’s highly successful 17th Edition online solution.

The new Inspection and Test 2392-10 course blends e-learning resources with two days at a centre for practical assessment where the Global Online

Assessment (GOLA) test can be taken. By combining the two methods, the time learners need to spend away from work is reduced by half, from four to two days.

This innovative style of course provision allows learners to take a flexible approach to skills development and reduces any potential loss of income as a result of time away from work, job rescheduling and losing contracts. Employers also stand to benefit by limiting the impact of staff training commitments on workload and minimising the cost of accommodation. “The new Inspection and Test 2392-10 course enhances traditional learning through the careful integration of e-learning technology, combining the best of both worlds,” says Alan Wells, NICEIC’s Head of Electrotechnical. “This saves learners and their employers both time and money, while allowing them to keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date.”

Ridi Lighting GmbH has announced the acquisition of the prestigious German architectural luminaire manufacturer, Spectral Lighting, following its liquidation in August 2010. Taking control of all manufacturing and IP rights, Ridi will continue to produce and market the Spectral range of commercial luminaires, following consolidation of plant and existing stock at Ridi’s Jungingen manufacturing base. Spectral will co-exist as an upmarket architectural brand within the Ridi group.

Mike Attard, Managing Director at Ridi UK, explains how the brand will complement existing Ridi products: “With a particular emphasis on LED technology and innovative solutions, Spectral invested heavily into product development and became a leading manufacturer of architectural products, leading to several iF and Red Dot Design Awards. Its range of luminaires sits perfectly within the Ridi group and will allow Ridi to offer the broadest possible range of high-performance, energy-efficient lighting components, still manufactured to exceptional standards in Germany. We are excited at having access to this stunning range of products in the UK”
