Website helps hit targets Mitsubishi Electric has launched a new website to highlight the benefits of a unique new range of commercial heating products that can help buildings hit renewable energy targets with more ease and flexibility than any other form of alternative heating, including biomass boilers.

The website details the efficiency challenges facing building owners today and highlights the versatility of use that the new range of heat pump boilers offers. Tough legislation now demands that new buildings and any major

refurbishments take into account energy use. Many local authorities are also insisting on varying degrees of renewable energy before approving planning applications. Targets can be as high as 20% of the building’s total energy use. In addition to this, Energy Performance Certificates are required for all new and refurbished buildings.

The website details the range of air source and ground source heat pump boilers which can supply hot water and heating via a ducted or wet system. The systems are based on advanced variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heat pump technology taken from the air conditioning industry and have been designed to provide low carbon heating systems. www.mitsubishielectric.co.uk/commercialheating

New Hager MCCBS

Hager has launched a new MCCB range that is easy to adapt and install for a variety of applications.

The range is rated from 16A to 800A in five frame sizes. Breaking capacities are from 18 to 50kA.

Installation is fast and simple with a choice of collar terminals, front and rear connections, extended connections and spreaders for terminations with cables, cable lugs or busbar.

The 400A to 800A MCCBs have electronic settings as standard for fault current level and time tripping. A second button selects the protection type according to the supply and load type.

Hager claims that the new range is also the easiest on the market to adapt for specific needs with its simple to mount range of auxiliaries. Quick connect terminals speeds up cabling and the internal auxiliary wires can be fed along a cable path on the side of the MCCB.

The MCCBs have a trip free mechanism, which means that they can be padlocked in the on or off position without affecting the trip mechanism if the device sees a fault. www.hager.co.uk

Tridium Tridium has announced the release of Vykon HVAC 2.2 incorporating major new features, improvements to further ease configuration and reporting, as well as specific application enhancements. Tridium’s Vykon HVAC automates HVAC application creation through an intuitive, software-based solution. One of the highlights of the new version is a mobile user

interface which provides access to HVAC applications via an iPhone, or other smart phone, to allow easy adjustment of set- points and access to logging histories, running parameters and alarms. Version 2.2 also offers multi-station object linking, which permits Vykon HVAC applications to share data with common applications, such as fire, outside air temperature and time schedules, running across multiple Tridium JACE controllers. Vykon HVAC 2.2 eases system configuration through the creation of custom application configuration views which give a clearer indication of what is linked and what can be configured. The introduction of automatic PDF report generation of all application settings, configuration and graphics views helps create ‘as- installed’ documentation. Tridium has also built a range of new applications into the system, such as Absolute Night Purge, Holiday and Time Schedule, as well as numerous application enhancements. www.tridiumeurope.com

Precision control from Schell The latest product to be introduced to the UK market by Schell GmbH is the COMPACT LC urinal control.

This new product can be used with all urinal bowls, including those manufactured in stainless steel and offers a variety of precisely delivered, easily programmed flush programmes.

The sensor itself and the REED switch that controls it are concealed from sight not only for aesthetic reasons but also to prevent vandalism and, by use of the COMPACT II roughing-in set, the unit is extremely simple to install. It is ideally suited for offices, factories and all public washroom facilities. The COMPACT LC sensor sits to the rear of the siphon provided with the kit. The flush is immediately activated by contact with liquid and is corrosion proof, detecting liquid flow even when heavy urine or scale deposits are present. Flush options consist of a one or two litre flush or of a hybrid flush for urinals using a sealing liquid. There is also a choice of service programmes and a diagnostic programme to check the components of the system. www.schell.eu

Heatpak from Stokvis

Stokvis Energy Systems has been building packaged boiler rooms for many years and the company has now standardised on Heatpak units that have a standard specification for various heating loads to ensure rapid delivery to site, generally six to eight weeks.

By installing a Heatpak on the roof or alongside a building, valuable building space can be

utilised and because of the relatively low unit weight many roof top structural limitations can be overcome.

On-site labour time is kept to a minimum, which is essential on a fast track programme, while the packaged nature of the installation eliminates possible damage by other trades. Heatpak units can contain a range of equipment, including high efficiency boilers and condensing pre-mix boilers, plate heat exchangers, pressure and booster sets and the latest Stokvis introduction – solar panels and vessels.

The combination of a high efficiency boiler and plate heat exchanger gives the benefit of a fully modulated heating and hot water system, dramatically reducing running costs and giving a very short pay-back. www.stokvisboilers.com

Integrated renewables

from Hoval Hoval’s portfolio of low carbon products now includes biomass boilers, solar heating systems and air-source heat pumps. The range also includes control systems to enable these different renewable technologies to work with each other, and with conventional condensing boilers, to optimum effect. These controls address one of the main challenges in incorporating renewables in a project. Hoval’s BioLyt (26kW – 160kW) and STU (150kW – 1200kW) wood pellet and Forester (180kW – 2000kW) wood chip biomass boilers offer very high efficiencies (up to 95%) and high levels of automation.

All biomass boilers can be fitted with the new CF ceramic filter for removing particulate emissions in line with the latest air quality legislation. CF filters can also be retrofitted to existing biomass boilers.

Independent testing of Hoval’s new range of Belaria air-source,

air-to-water heat pumps has confirmed a Coefficient of Performance of 3.8 - the highest efficiency ever measured for air to water heat pumps at the Buchs Interstate Technical University NTB, the modular Belaria range has operating temperatures up to 55ºC and is available in seven model variants with heating capacities ranging from 8.6kW to 33.2kW. www.hoval.co.uk

New fire rated downlights A new range of fire rated downlights designed for commercial applications have been launched to market. The range benefits from a patented UTEKTON System that seals the ceiling aperture in the event of a fire and an easy to install ceiling clamp fixing system. This unique combination allows twin lamp downlights to be installed whilst retaining the BRE fire rating for 30, 60 and 90 minutes. In addition, the new fire rated downlights can be installed without the need for a firehood helping save both time and costs.

When an installer punctures a hole into a ceiling to fit a downlight the panel loses its fire integrity allowing smoke and fire to spread to the upper level. However installing fire rated downlights can provide a solution.

Most fire rated downlights currently on the market use a traditional intumescent strip. In the event of a fire this strip expands to fill ventilation holes in the downlights and any gaps around the fitting itself. However, intumescent strips are expensive and can degrade over time affecting the original fire performance levels. www.firerateddownlight.com

Style and

performance Scandinavian styling and impressive performance on all counts are the reasons why the Series 14 (E4EU) panel heaters are among the most popular products in the Creda NOBO range of electric heating products. The 100% efficient E4EU heaters come in six output ratings from 500W to 2,000W, which means that they are suitable for use in a wide range of residential and commercial settings.
