The unique Glow-worm Clearly Hybrid system is the first innovation in the UK heating market that couple’s renewable and traditional energy sources to offer homeowners a heating system that is environmentally conscious and cost efficient for domestic heating and hot water.

Clearly Hybrid uses its advanced control system to automatically choose when to use low carbon renewable energy from the heat pump or traditional energy from the high efficiency boiler depending upon which source provides the most cost effective option, based on your customers heating requirements, energy tariff and outside temperature.

Clearly Hybrid enables installers, housebuilders and social housing providers to offer heating and hot water systems marrying traditional and renewable technology, optimising system running cost and reducing the carbon footprint of the user. Thanks to the advanced design, homeowners can take a step into renewable technology heating, whilst having the comfort and security of their traditional boiler and familiar controls in their home. www.glow-worm.co.uk

New from Toshiba The rising need for CO2 emission reduction has become a challenge to be tackled with the highest priority. Among various air-conditioning systems, multi-split direct expansion type air-conditioning (or variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems have received attention as a potential energy-saving solution. Toshiba currently provides the Super Module Multi Series (SMMS) as part of its VRF system lineup. In addition to the SMMS, the company will release the SMMSi that can deliver even higher energy- saving performance and permit longer piping, with a view to substituting existing counterparts such as chiller systems. The SMMSi is an advanced series of the existing SMMS. The high- end model of the SMMSi has a unit capacity of 16 HP, while that of SMMS has 12 HP. The full inverter technology, which has gained favour with the SMMS, has been further improved and incorporated in the additional 14HP and 16HP high-power models of the SMMSi. These models have three internal compressors that can be individually driven by their own inverter control to help reduce energy consumption. The SMMSi also focuses on the improvement of equipment efficiency during stable operation that may substantially affect the energy consumption. www.toshiba-aircon.co.uk

Ruskin’s new Actionpac New products from Ruskin Air Management will improve the safety of Britain's buildings.

The Actionair Actionpac family of centralised control systems for fire and smoke dampers has been completely upgraded. Significant improvements have been made to Models LNS3, 60/120, EMS and EMB.

The most exciting of the new developments, however, is the launch of the brand new Actionpac Smart. This low cost, intelligent system takes control and monitoring of dampers to a new level.

Actionpac Smart incorporates the latest solid-state technology and operates on an embedded platform. As a result it is ultra reliable, needs substantially less cabling and makes grouping and zoning of dampers much easier to achieve. Full operational data is displayed. Each Actionpac Smart panel will provide interactive monitoring and function control for up to 30 Actionair Smoke/Shield or Vent/Shield Dampers.

Actionpac Smart units will perform a vital function. Industry standards now reflect the fact that, when buildings burn, actual flame is a relatively minor hazard in terms of human safety. www.ruskinuk.co.uk

Test adaptor avoids tripping Seaward’s latest PAT accessory is a special new adaptor for effective RCD testing.

The adaptor has been designed to enable users to test a portable RCD or RCD protected extension lead without risk of tripping the main RCD in the installation. Most Seaward portable appliance testers are already equipped with an integral RCD trip time test. However, when testing a portable RCD using a mains outlet on an installation which is RCD protected, the test may cause the main RCD to operate.

The new compact RCD test adaptor eliminates this problem by providing an isolated mains supply which prevents unwanted tripping of any RCD at the main distribution board or consumer unit. The Seaward NTB-1 RCD adaptor can be used easily and effectively with any make of PAT tester or RCD test instrument. The new NTB-1 RCD test adaptor from Seaward forms part of an extended range of PAT accessories that include PAT Checkboxes for regular in-service confirmation of test accuracy, pass/fail labels, Test ‘n’ Tag printers, barcode scanners and record keeping software. www.seaward.co.uk
