The Championship is Offi cially Closed

I reported for duty 29 years ago at the NCGA offi ces located at Spyglass Hill Golf Course as the new director of rules and competitions. Little did I know that I was about to start the most unbeliev- able journey in the world of amateur golf.

The number of employees then was 10; today we have 40. No one after me will ever have the good fortune to experi- ence the tremendous growth the NCGA has seen. I like to relate this as going from horse and buggy to the moon. During these growing years the NCGA has become the largest and most diverse regional golf association in the country. The tournament program has provided NCGA members of all skill levels the opportunity to compete. We have always maintained the philosophy to respect all skill levels and that all members should have the right to compete if they choose. I will be leaving this behind in December as I am retiring and moving on to new challenges. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve our members and the NCGA board of directors for so many years. I have also been blessed to have worked with the greatest staff and been honored to watch them grow professionally and personally.

It takes many volunteers to manage the largest tourna- ment program in the country. This is accomplished by the outstanding members that donate their time to become tournament offi cials and give back to the game we all love. I want to thank all of them for the support they have given the program and me. This group is the best in the business and is nationally recognized. I will always cherish their friendship. I also want to thank our

allied associations which include the SCGA, CGA, NCPGA, WGANC, PWGA, JGANC and CIF for their support of our program and the relationships that have developed over the many years. My friends at the SCGA will always be very special. The interactions that I

have had with our great play- ers, member clubs and their staffs have been outstanding and very much appreciated. They have always come for- ward to support the tourna- ment program and amateur golf. Without this great sup- port the program would just have been ordinary. I will never be able to thank the NCGA enough for all the opportunities it has given me to participate in am- ateur golf and to participate at a national level. My family has always felt connected and will continue to feel that way after my departure. The NCGA is a very special place for me and hopefully I have served it well. I wish nothing but the best for the NCGA and its future.
