Arizona Holistic Chamber of Commerce
by Eric Sells and peace. S Since taking over the reigns as
president of the Arizona Holistic Chamber of Commerce earlier this year, Janet has worked tirelessly to increase its membership and identify new opportunities for the organization. “I’ve probably grown more as a person during the past six months than at any other time,” she admitted. Started in 2005, the Chamber
practices and promotes doing busi- ness holistically within the communi- ty. Its stated purpose includes educat- ing and providing business develop- ment support for holistic businesses, helping increase a holistic community presence, and creating a forum in which businesspeople are supported and affirmed in their commitment to a holistic approach to business and life. In addition to building the organi-
zation’s ranks, Janet’s plan for the Cham- ber includes providing membership options for consumers and establishing satellite offices across Arizona. “Even- tually I would like to see our Chamber go to Washington and start lobbying for different solutions in our health care system where insurance compa- nies start covering holistic wellness.” Since becoming president, she
has expanded the organization’s board of directors, bringing new perspectives in building the chamber’s overall mis- sion and vision. She has championed a year-long Peace Mandala created by chamber members, and the message of world peace is being carried out into the greater community at every opportunity. Through a complete re- design of the Chamber’s website, Janet has helped expand a membership directory and online events calendar.

“What I truly like about our Chamber is that members ask what they can do to support one another. It’s very uplifting.”

Chamber members benefit by vari-
ous opportunities for networking and business development through monthly luncheon meetings to breakfast net- working meetings and monthly mixers. Janet recommends that anyone interested in joining the chamber should attend all of its various func- tions. “Each one has a different en- ergy. By the time you’ve participated in them all, you should have a very good idea about what the chamber is all about,” she commented. The monthly luncheons help
attendees grow their businesses. For example, a recent gathering focused on everyone exchanging their business cards and critiquing them. Another luncheon centered around refining one’s elevator pitch. To fulfill her obligations as Cham-
ber president, Janet has temporar- ily placed on hold her own business which manages and sponsors health expos. She credits part of her success to husband Howard who supports the sub- stantial time and energy Janet devotes to her Chamber duties. She said that one of the more
rewarding activities has been publishing a monthly email newsletter to cham- ber members and people interested in holistic living. “Within a day, I usually receive at least several encouraging
