Multinational Sector Award in recognition of its outstanding training and development practices at the 12th annual Irish Institute ofTraining andDevelopment (IITD) National Training Awards 2010.The company was recognised for its strategic approach to learning and development. Speaking at the awards, Sinead Heneghan, director,
IITD, said: “A key component was their demonstration both of the tangible returns achieved fromtheir training and development programmes, and the key role these programmes play in helping them to adapt, change and compete in the current economy.”

New express delivery from Ireland to the US
DHL has started operating a new flight from Dublin, providing enhanced transatlantic services with 24-hour express delivery from Ireland to the US and Canada. With this improved service, 90pc of all business addresses in the
US are now covered on a next-day basis from Ireland. DHL has five international gateways strategically located in the US, each with its own customs-clearance facilities. Mike Farrell, operations director, DHL Express Ireland, said:

Clare supermarket to create 50 jobs
A new supermarket and community development is to open in Miltown Malbay,CoClare,which is expected to create over 50 jobs and support local businesses. The proposed €4m development
will consist of a 10,000 sq ft super- market, 150-space car park, relief road for the town, children’s playground,andanAstroTurf facility with associated dressing rooms and lighting. Local businessman John Jones
says the project will regenerate the local area and create over 50 jobs, as well as additional seasonal employment. A further 70 jobs will be generated during the 12–18 month construction phase. Jones andhiswifeClaire currently
operate a Centra supermarket at Church Street, Miltown Malbay. They are the seventh successive generation of the Jones family to operate the business, which was established in 1835.
