50 years of ENRICHING

Whether one plays it or listens to it, music can, in the words of Berthold Auerbach, “wash away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Music has always been part of the Center, from the Rhythm Band in the ‘60s to the Second-Wind Band, Flashbacks, Silvertones, and Barbershop Belles of today. Regular performances by these groups let them share with others the joy that music brings.

At the Second-Wind Band’s annual spring concert in May 2009, a very special guest artist joined the group, appearing as a soloist on John Williams’ haunting “Theme from Schindler’s List.” Max Rabinovitsj learned to play the violin while in hiding in his native Belgium during the Nazi occupation. After the war, he became an accomplished composer and orchestra conductor and has performed in the great concert halls of the world for more than a half century. Sharing his musical gifts with the Center was enriching experience for band members and audiences alike.
