glass. The band released their debut EP Leave Heaven to the Birds in July 2009, which was produced by Shaun Cornell (Transfer, Dirty Sweet). Dead Feather Moon’s music has received wide radio airplay through- out the US, including local stations 91X and 94/9.

FAMILY WAGON
www.myspace.com/familywagonmusic
School is certainly a great place to get an education, but it can also be an excellent place to form a band. From the Beatles to Pink Floyd, the cama-
raderie built during the educational exploits of band members is a special bond, which sometimes trans- lates into the music. Such is the case with Family Wagon, a four-piece, indie blues/rock-inspired group. What is remarkable about the band is their unique
sound that mixes elements of blues and 1960s rock ‘n’ roll into their overall sound. Add the wonderful talents of the band’s members and Family Wagon takes music lovers on a fantastic ride with music full of enriching lyrics, melodious tunes, and strong raw vocals.

FEARLESS IN FAIRWEATHER
www.myspace.com/fearlessinfairweather
Fearless in Fairweather has been quickly creat- ing a buzz around town being featured as the local artist of the day on 94.9, along with a recent write up by the Belly
Up’s very own Chad Waldorf in the San Diego City Beat. Although mostly comprised of local San Diego ska veterans, Fearless in Fairweather sounds more like what would happen if Elvis Costello and a doo-wop band teamed up to make music. FIF’s fun, new wave- ish sound is coupled with songs about obsession, iden- tity, and the other side of paradise, which results in a sort of tongue-in-cheek vibe that never lets the cat completely out of the bag.

FMERA
www.myspace.com/fmeraband
Somewhere between an elec- tronically charged atomic particle and an algebraic function lies the band FMera.
Influenced by bands of the post-shoegaze era, and with hints of electronica, FMera’s music is masterfully woven into a melodically-spaced equation of sounds. Heavy layers of rhythm guitar laced with chiming notes ring high above the vocals, that are subdued in tone, but not volume, producing a truly unique alternative rock sound that is moving fast in the San Diego music scene.

The Fremonts are modern purveyors of the ‘50s and ‘60s blues found on classic labels like Chess, Excello, and Sun records. With a sparse, greasy approach to their music, the Fremonts have been winning over crit- ics and fans alike since their inception in 2001. Numerous awards and accolades attest to the fact that the Fremonts’ determination to present the blues in its original context has not gone unnoticed.

THE HEAVY GUILT
www.myspace.com/theheavyguilt
The Heavy Guilt is an unlikely blend of diver- gent influences meeting in the middle to form something raw, fresh, and potent. Based in San Diego, the band’s first album, Lift Us Up From This, features Josh Rice on keyboards and Alfred Howard on
lyrics and percussion; they are both former members of the K23 Orchestra. Newcomer Erik Canzona is on vocals and the band is rounded out by Sean Martin on the electric guitar and Jason Littlefield on upright and electric bass. On the kit is Jenny Merullo. This six- piece combo are hidden all-stars, disparate masters speaking through the common language of song. These bold players, not yet household names, are driving their stake hard into the soil of great American rock music.

JACKSON PRICE
www.myspace.com/jacksonprice
Touring since the age of 14, Jackson Price has spent years experimenting with all sorts of sounds before finally releasing a debut solo EP this year. The music reflects his experience and evolution with its pop/soul/country
feel, echoing the sidewalks of Nashville. Price captures his musical past, but uses it to build his own, soulful sound that feels like a collision between Jason Mraz and James Taylor. With this album, as with four of his previous eight releases, Price performs every instru- ment, provides all the vocals, and writes and arranges every song from his heart.
