JAMIE DRAKE
www.myspace.com/jamiedrakemusic
Jamie Drake found that singing and writing was in her blood at an early age. The act was passed down from her singer-songwriter father, Randy Thompson, who wrote until he passed
away years ago, a mere hillbilly in the Arkansas moun- tains. She’s always known that music would be a mys- tic, beautiful thing that she had to share with the world she lived in. In the last 13 years, she’s become a prolif- ic songwriter, worked with great writers and producers, worked in the music video world, and written with and for kids.

JOHN MEEKS
www.myspace.com/johnmeeksmusic
San Diego singer/songwriter John Meeks makes a strong argument for the virtues of doing one thing, and doing it very well. In the case of his debut recording, Old Blood, that one thing is making twangy country-rock ballads
rich in nuanced ambiance and whiskey-soaked heart- break. There’s so much of the latter, actually, that it feels like Meeks should be commended for having the strength to get off the barstool and ramble his way into the studio. What is so compelling about Meeks’ music is his simple, straightforward approach. His country- twinged songs are free of artifice, aren’t overly pro- duced or orchestrated, and sound effortless.
Saturday: 6:30pm, Roots Rock Stage @ 34th St. ACOUSTIC/FOLK/JAZZ
JOHN JI
www.myspace.com/johnjimusic
San Diego-based multi-instru- mentalist/singer-songwriter Jon Ji continues planting the seeds of his jazz alt folk and 21st century blues, supporting his last album, jarm. The San Diego Reader describes it as “cowboy bebop and gypsy crawl. It’s a lot like old-time jazz, like the Squirrel Nut
Zippers with a little bit of groove music thrown in. Call it alterna-folk bebop-groove sturm und drang.” The Monterey Herald calls his act “irresistible.” Goes well with jazz, blues, folk, and artists like Jason Mraz, Jeff Buckley, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and Billie Holiday.
