29TH ANNUAL ADAMS AVENUE STRE E T FAIR ROCK/INDIE

STRIPES & LINES www.myspace.com/stripesandlines

Stripes and Lines bring the old and new together with hints of Built to Spill, a driving rhythm sec- tion reminiscent of U2 or the Police, add

a touch of Velvet Underground, and top it off with four- part vocal harmonies that suggest the great vocalists of the ‘60s. It’s a potent combination of high energy with musicality and subtlety that perhaps only could have been achieved after years on the road.

Saturday: 6:45pm, DiMille’s Stage BLUES/SWING

TARYN DONATH www.myspace.com/taryndonath

Taryn Donath and Phil Rowley have been making music together since the early ’90s but recently, in the last few years, they have been working together as a duo.

With a commanding left hand and a rock steady back- beat, there is no need for remorse over the missing bass player or the extra solist! The two musicians work together seamlessly and have a true sense for the art of music. They will take you on a musical journey through ’40s jump blues, west coast swing, some soul jazz ,and even a little Latin spice! This duo brings spon- taneity, passion, and excitement to every performance.

Saturday: 11:15am, Blues Stage @ Hawley Blvd. PROGRESSIVE ROCK/FUSION

TRAVIS LARSON BAND www.myspace.com/thetravislarsonband

With four records and a full-length performance DVD, the award win- ning Travis Larson Band is firmly root- ed as one of

instrumental music’s premiere acts. Comprised of Travis Larson (guitar), Jennifer Young (bass), and Dale Moon (drums), TLB’s complicated phrasing, impossible timing, and seamless flow cause some to suspect that the band must surely operate from only one, albeit enor- mous, brain. This tiny band with the big sound has found its

way into the festivals, theaters, clubs and music stores across the nation, not to mention the traveling 53-foot tractor-trailer truck tours and music industry events. Well known for their live performances the Travis Larson Band delivers full throttle rock fusion that soars with originality.

Saturday: 1:15pm, Lestat’s Stage @ Felton St. ROCK/SOUL/INDIE

TREVOR DAVIS www.myspace.com/trevordavis

Trevor Davis had never sung in front of an audi- ence until his senior year of high school. Even his closest friends didn’t know he could sing because of his reserved nature. Seemingly out of nowhere, Trevor decid-

ed to sing the national anthem at a basketball game. To watch him perform, you’d think he’d been doing it all his life.

Sunday: 4:15pm, Lestat’s Stage @ Felton St. BLUES

DEAD ROCK WEST www.deadrockwest.com

As native Californians, Cindy Wasserman and Frank Drennen are inspired as much by the state’s natural beauty and forward thinking as they are by its singers. Having absorbed first- hand the rough hewn sounds of X, the

Plimsouls, the Blasters, and other LA bands of the '80s and '90s, the pair also shared an enthusiasm for the melodies and harmonies of the Byrds, the Buffalo Springfield, the Beach Boys, and other mythical California musicians of ‘60s and ‘70s. Coming together to form Dead Rock West, Drennen and Wasserman dis- tilled the essences of all their favorite music and poured it over their own close harmonies for Honey and Salt, their 2007 debut on the Populuxe label. Following the album's release with a series of live dates and col- laborations on the road and in the studio, Drennen and Wasserman were rapidly becoming members of the cir- cle of LA musicians who’d initially inspired them, but after two years of non-stop work, the time eventually came for them to recharge their own sound: That's when Wasserman found her unexpected source of strength in faith-based songs. “It got me excited about music all over again,” she says.
