SCARLET SYMPHONY www.myspace.com/scarletsymphony

Comprised of twins Zach and Josh, and a pair of witty front men, Gary and Aaron, Scarlet Symphony rocks out with a sound described as “Atomic Casserole.” The band’s dance/pop/punk/rock sound fights off the death-grip of boring music and boring musi-

cians. This fierce force of a science experiment gone incredibly right wears capes of art and carries swords of poetry. They use the powers of theatrics and expan- sive musical sound to sweep down and avenge the integrity of music. If you were once afraid to venture into the night for fear of encountering monstrously lame bands, fear not, San Diego! Scarlet Symphony needs only be called upon to save you from a wasteful night at a show.

SENE AFRICA www.myspace.com/seneafrica

Amadou Fall and Ibrahima Ba were born in Dakar, Senegal, West Africa in the mid-1970s. Fall’s early memories are laced with the sounds of the kora, a unique 21-string African instru- ment. He began learning to play at 11 years old and, at 15, he honed his talents and style.

Ba was inspired by the singing, drums, and guitar

rhythms of the all-blind INAS Orchestra. In his early teens he would walk by the river or sit near the ocean, training his voice and the finesse of his hands on homemade guitars. He also became proficient, playing drums and percussion.

THE STONE FOXES www.myspace.com/thestonefoxes

The four San Franciscans in the Stone Foxes have an energetic style that’s rooted in swampy, foot-stomping blues- rock. Their freshly released sophomore

album, Bears and Bulls, tackles ambitious arrange- ments with diverse moods ranging from acoustic twang to thunderous electric-guitar riffs. While the Stone Foxes may be influenced by the greats of the late 60s and early 70s, they never sound like they’re trying to be anything but exactly who they are.
