ndicating a shift in culture over just the last 20 years, the average age of marriage for both men and women has increased by up to six years. While in the early ‘90s most men married by age 22 and women by 20, men and women are now waiting on average to ages 28 and 26, respectively. Most say they are put- ting off marriage in favor of longer courtships or engagements or to advance their careers in hopes of fi nancial stability before tying the knot. Churches may start to see shrinking young mar- ried Sunday School classes and growing singles ministries.

Last year families in the United States adopted 13,000 foreign-born children— more than anywhere else in the rest of the world combined! Of this number, the majority of children came from Chi- na, Ethiopia and Russia. As more children are transitioning into American families, think about what your children’s ministry and even your congrega- tion as a whole can do to welcome them with love and support.

World Changers turn 20


his summer marked the 20th year of World Changers, a ministry of the North American Mission Board, that provides students and adults with opportunities to meet the physical and spiritual needs of others, most often by replacing roofs and tackling other repairs on low-income housing in partnership with local churches and community organizations.


Other milestones in 2010: • 100th project in Georgia • 100th project in Alabama • 30th project in Canada • 10,000th church group to participate • 300,000th student participant
