Energy Systems Engineer Grade 7: £30,747 - £35,646 pa


This new role has been created to support the Assistant Director in the management of energy and carbon and the delivery of value for money utility services.


The post holder will be expected to oversee and periodically review effectiveness of the University’s energy management systems and make recommendations for their ongoing development. They will monitor energy and water consumption and initiate appropriate and timely remedial action to minimise waste, as well as take a leading role in the delivery of energy related projects across the University’s estate, ensuring that the University fully meets its obligations under the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.


The position involves working with the Environmental Co-ordinator in promoting energy awareness and water conservation among the wider University community as well as working with, and advising, relevant managers within Estates, academic schools and other departments on minimising the consumption of utilities. Therefore, the ability to communicate highly detailed and high impact information, ensuring full understanding in others, is crucial.


Candidates must be a Chartered Engineer or hold an equivalent professional qualification, with a degree in Building Services or Energy Systems Engineering.


Proven significant experience in Building Services or Energy Systems Engineering in a medium to large organisation, along with experience with data handling and processing in a utility environment is essential for this position. Candidates must also have experience and an understanding of control systems relating to Building Services and the ability to operate/interrogate building management systems. In addition they must have knowledge of current legislation, regulation and fiscal incentives relating to energy use and carbon emissions.

Your main areas of undergraduate teaching would be in building technology and performance. The role also includes contributions to postgraduate courses and to the research and consultancy activities of the Department in the general area of sustainable building.
